About these cut files

Paper ornaments with real depth

Make a tree full of keepsakes: nine layered ornaments in three to four layers each, with the hanging hole built into every layer so they line up perfectly after gluing. Add a name to the gift-tag and name-round ornaments for place settings, gift toppers or a family tradition.

Why you’ll love it

  • 9 layered designs plus 9 matching Print Then Cut versions
  • Sized about 2.2–3.6 in wide and 3.4–3.9 in tall, so every piece fits the Cricut Joy mat
  • Numbered layers: cut the base first, then glue each layer in order
  • Works with cardstock, adhesive felt or vinyl on a cardstock base
  • No machine? PDF hand-cut sheets in US Letter and A4 are included

Please note

  • This is a digital download. No physical item will be shipped.
  • You need a cutting machine (or scissors and the PDF sheets), cardstock and glue.

How to use your cut files

The same steps are in the one-page guide inside your download.

  1. Download & unzip. Save the ZIP files to a computer, then unzip them (Windows: right-click › Extract All; Mac: double-click). Design Space can’t open a ZIP, and DXF uploads need the desktop app.
  2. Upload to Design Space. On the Canvas choose Upload › Upload Image › Browse. Pick an SVG for a cut file or a PNG for Print Then Cut, then Upload and add it to the Canvas.
  3. Ungroup or attach. Layered SVGs arrive grouped. Select Ungroup to cut each layer from its own cardstock color, or keep a design together with Attach so the pieces stay placed as designed.
  4. Check the size. Each file name gives its designed size in inches (e.g. _3.2x3.7in). Keep the lock on in the Size box so proportions stay true if you resize.
  5. Print Then Cut (PNG files). Set the Operation to Print Then Cut and select Make. Choose Send to Printer with bleed on, print on white matte cardstock, then place the sheet top-left on a LightGrip mat, load it and cut.
  6. Cut, layer & finish. For layered files, cut layer 1 (the base) first, then glue each numbered layer on top in order. Thread ribbon or twine through the hanging holes.

Tips

  • Cardstock: 65–100 lb (176–270 gsm) for the ornament layers. To hang an ornament, thread ribbon or twine through the hanging hole.
  • Print Then Cut size limit: keep each printable within about 6.75 × 9.25 in (the classic safe area). Newer Design Space versions allow up to 9.94 × 7.44 in on Letter for Explore, Maker and Joy Xtra.
  • Original Cricut Joy: cut files only (no Print Then Cut). Mat cut area 4.25 × 11.75 in.
  • Silhouette Studio Basic Edition: use the DXF files (SVG needs Designer Edition). DXF doesn’t store size, so resize to the size in the file name.
  • No machine? Print the PDF sheets at 100% and cut along the grey outlines with scissors.

FAQ & terms

Good to know before you buy

Which machines does this work with?

Cricut Maker, Maker 3, Explore Air 2 and Explore 3 can use both the layered cut files and the Print Then Cut files. The original Cricut Joy can use the cut files only, because it is not capable of Print Then Cut (Cricut help); every cut piece fits its 4.25 in cut width. Cricut Joy Xtra supports Print Then Cut. Other cutting machines whose software opens SVG or DXF should work too.

Does it work with Silhouette?

Yes. Silhouette Studio Basic Edition opens the DXF files; SVG import needs Designer Edition or higher (Silhouette help). DXF files don’t remember their size, so after importing, set the width and height to the size in the file name (Silhouette help).

Which file formats are included?

SVG (layered cut files), DXF (Silhouette Studio Basic and other software), PNG at 300 dpi with transparent backgrounds (Print Then Cut), and PDF hand-cut sheets in US Letter and A4, plus a one-page PDF guide. They come as ZIP files: unzip them on a computer before uploading.

Will anything be shipped to me?

No. This is a digital download only. No physical item, cardstock or machine is shipped.

Can I resize the designs?

Yes. Each file name ends with its designed size in inches. Keep the size lock on so the layers stay in proportion, and resize every layer of a design together. Going much smaller than designed makes fine details hard to cut and weed.

Is there a Print Then Cut size limit?

Yes. Design Space limits Print Then Cut images to about 6.75 × 9.25 in (newer versions allow up to 9.94 × 7.44 in on Letter paper for some machines). All of our Print Then Cut pieces fit inside 6.75 × 9.25 in. Cricut help: Print Then Cut size

What paper or cardstock should I use?

65–100 lb (176–270 gsm) cardstock for the ornament layers; thread ribbon or twine through the hanging hole to hang them. For Print Then Cut, print on white matte cardstock or printable material so the machine can read the sensor marks (Cricut help).

Can I sell what I make?

These files are for personal use and for use with your own family, school, office or group, under the same terms as all WarmPlanStudio printables. Please don’t resell, share or redistribute the files or items made from them.

My upload failed. What should I do?

First unzip the download: Design Space can’t open ZIP files. Upload a single SVG (cut file) or PNG (Print Then Cut) through Upload › Upload Image. DXF uploads need the desktop app. If a layered design appears as one shape, select Ungroup. Cricut lists unsupported upload types here: Cricut help. Still stuck? Email warmplanstudio@gmail.com with the file name.

What is your refund policy?

Because digital files can’t be returned once downloaded, all sales of digital downloads are final and refunds are not offered. But if something is wrong (a file won’t open, a file is missing, or you bought twice by mistake) please email us and we’ll make it right.

Which currency are prices in?

All prices are in US dollars (USD). Any applicable sales tax is shown at checkout.

Terms of use
